This recipe can be done on the stovetop or the grill (preferred). The key is to get the beans cooked till they start to slightly break down. Let the beans rest and reheat before serving!

Ingredients

  • 24 oz can Bush's Original Baked Beans

  • 1 -1/2 strips of bacon

  • 3 tablespoons BBQ sauce

  • 2 drops of liquid smoke

  • 1 tablespoons dark molasses

  • 1 tablespoons brown sugar

Note:

  • For less sweetness, omit or reduce that molasses and brown sugar.

  • Other variations included using peach or apple pie filling. Or add a little heat (red pepper or hot sauce).

Directions

  1. Cook the bacon until just starting to brown. Do not cook the bacon so it gets crispy. Drain and cut up the bacon.

  2. Combine all ingredients into a pot for the stovetop, or an aluminum cooking pan for the grill (highly preferred).

  3. Cook

    1. On the Stove - On medium heat, bring to a slow boil, stirring, and turn off when they start to thicken. Let rest for at least 15 min and reheat before serving.

    2. On the Grill - Place the pan on indirect heat. Cook uncovered for approximately 45 min at 350 degrees F. They should be bubbly around the edges. Let the beans rest for 5 min before serving. They can also be reheated in the oven or grill.
